The next Ramadan is estimated to begin on 2nd April to 2nd May 2022 and is a fantastic time to experience true Arabian culture. Dubai holidays are often more affordable during this period too.
What is Ramadan?
Ramadan is the most important month in the Muslim calendar and is a time for people to be with their loved ones, self-reflect and renew their faith. During this time Muslims fast from dawn until dusk and abstain from eating, drinking, smoking and chewing gum.
Visiting Dubai if you’re a tourist during Ramadan
If you are a tourist visiting Dubai you will not be expected to fast. While eating, drinking and smoking is strictly prohibited in public places, hotels will offer meals and drinks at many of their restaurants and bars. If you wish to consume alcohol during your stay, you may do so in your hotel room during the day, and bars in resort will be open as normal after sunset.
When packing for your trip, it’s important you include a couple of different outfit options so you’re prepared for all the activities you wish to take part in. When you’re relaxing by the hotel pool or sunbathing on the resort beach it’s fine to wear swim wear and beach clothes. However, when out in public during the day, it is advisable to be more covered up to show respect to the local customs. We would recommend that women cover their shoulders and knees and men should wear knee length shorts or trousers when out in public areas.

Shop until you drop
Ramadan is the ideal time to visit Dubai if you love to shop. With many shops and malls operating with extended opening hours, there’s more time to pick up the perfect souvenir from your holiday.
See the sights of Dubai
The vast majority of tourist attractions will be open during Ramadan. You may even find that the attractions are slightly quieter than usual, so if you want to avoid the crowds, this is an ideal time to visit.
After the sun goes down, the feast can begin
Once the sun sets, Dubai comes to life as local people break their fasts with an iftar (sunset feast) and suhoor (early morning feast.) Tourists are welcomed and encouraged to join in the celebrations with many hotels and restaurants hosting elaborately decorated Ramadan tents. At the tents you can try traditional Ramadan dishes and celebrate with your family and friends. One of the most popular tents is Madinat Jumeriah’s Al Majilis which allows guests to experience an authentic Arabian iftar. Here guests can enjoy a sumptuous selection of Arabic and international cuisines from the buffet and live cooking stations as well as enjoy traditional entertainment. For a suhoor we recommend a visit to The Oberoi. At this luxury hotel, the grand ballroom is transformed into an Arabian paradise and only the freshest local produce is served. There are also henna artists and an aromatic spice souk on site to make your experience even more special.
